Course Description, Objectives and Course Delivery

Description

An integrated presentation of genome organization, genome sequencing and characterization, comparative genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and introductory genomic data analysis.

Objective

The course objective is 1) to instill in those students who successfully complete the course sufficient knowledge for them to be conversant in all of the areas of genomics and 2) to provide a knowledge base that enables the student to successfully move on and master advanced topics in genomics.  This will be achieved by learning how scientists solve problems at the genome level and make new discoveries.  To achieve this objective, the course materials will be presented to the student in multiple formats.  Lectures will be presented on most current topics.  All of the course materials are available from the class WWW site.

Course Delivery

This course will be delivered using features of the HyFlex models. All course materials will be delivered by the faculty synchronously using the Zoom platform at the scheduled class time. This will be entirely on line; there will not be a classroom option for students. Faculty will use the "Screen Sharing" option to share the lecture materials. Those materials will also be available from the class WWW site. Students will log in to the Zoom session remotely. You need access to the requisite technology, including a laptop/computer with a functioning microphone, speakers (or headphones) and webcam (if available), as well as reliable internet access. Each session will be recorded, and links sent to the class.

If You Are Sick

If you are unable to attend class at the regularly scheduled time due to illness, contact the instructor for alternate arrangements, including recordings of class sessions and assignments as well as accommodations and extensions as needed.
