To be or not to be….

Rewrite the short news release below, substituting each use of the verb “to be” (is, are, was, were, will be) with stronger, more active verbs. Also write a new lead, and tighten up sentences, if necessary. Think of that old SAVE formula from the beginning of the semester.

High school to present holiday concert

On Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, there will be a holiday concert at West Gulch (Minn.) High School. This concert is being sponsored by the high school chapter of the Key Club.

The high school concert band is performing seasonal music by Bach and Handel.

The concert will be held at 2 p.m., in the high school gym. Students who are performing will be dressed in period costumes reflecting Victorian England. Featured vocalist is Elizabeth Nern. Nern was a 1998 West Gulch graduate, and now is a student at Julliard School of Music in Boston. The concert is free and open to the public.
