About Ross F. Collins

Ross F. Collins is a professor of communication at North Dakota State University, Fargo, USA. He began his career as a photojournalist, and spent three years as a free-lance photographer and writer. In 1992 he graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge (Britain), specializing in French journalism history. Ross teaches a variety of communication courses at NDSU, including photography and publication design. He coordinated the university's internet web design program from 2002-2017, and from 1994-2015 served as senior editor for the North Dakota State University Press.

Ross's photographs have appeared in more than two dozen exhibits. Juried shows include the Los Angeles County Fair, Poudre Valley Art League Exhibition (Fort Collins, Colorado), and Artsquad Contemporary Fine Art (Easton, Pennsylvania). He was a artist/member of Fargo's Gallery 4 from 1992-1994. He has published more than 450 photographs in a wide variety of publications, including The New York Times and Best of Photography Annual. In 2018 he published a co-edited textbook, Photocommunication Across Media. Beginning Photography for Professionals in Mass Media (Focal Press).
