Wednesday, November 1, 2017 - The annual NDSU EXPLORE Research Showcase encourages and celebrates the scholarly accomplishments of NDSU undergraduate students and provides an opportunity for them to display their research and creative projects for the campus and the public.  See the NDSU EXPLORE webpage.


Day-long event with oral presentations and poster sessions.
Luncheon and keynote speaker.

Forums on Research and Creative Activity

Please join Vice President for Research and Creative Activity, Dr. Kelly Rusch, throughout the semester for a conversation on research and scholarly activities. While there is no agenda for the forums, Dr. Rusch would like to engage in dialogue and hear your thoughts on growing the research, creative activity and scholarly enterprise on campus as we work to meet the Strategic Plan. These forums are scheduled for the following times:

"Pursuing Funding for Large Team and Center Grants"  - 8:30am -12:30pm

This workshop is interactive and geared toward mid-career and senior faculty who are ready or considering applying for large team or center grants within the next few years. Information on funding programs being considered is requested in the registration process. Discussion topics include: building and positioning your team, anticipating funding opportunities and assessing fit, developing a shared vision, building synergy and avoiding siloes, proposal planning and production, and characteristics of successful narratives.

"How to Write Successful Grants for Instrumentation"  - 8:00-10:00am

This session discusses grants that fund instrumentation and equipment and how to develop a successful proposal for these types of grants. Emphasis will be on NSF Major Research Instrumentation and NIH Shared Instrumentation Grants, but other funding programs will also be discussed.

This session discusses the types of funding available to support research in the humanities and humanities-related social sciences and how to be competitive when applying for these opportunities. This seminar focuses on how to compete for grants from the NEH, the NEA, and private foundations as well as grants to travel to collections and libraries.

NDSU subscribes to Pivot, an online database that provides several useful resources: (1) customized grant searches with email alerts, and (2) a massive inventory of faculty expertise profiles. This workshop will be held in a computer cluster to allow attendees to practice while Pivot is being demonstrated on the big screen. Pivot is user friendly and free to faculty, staff, and students.  Come find out how to receive useful grant email alerts and how to manage your own expertise profile in Pivot.  Questions?
