College of Science and Mathematics

Denise and Jon Beusen Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is given to a student enrolled in the College of Science and Mathematics.  Selection is based on GPA and financial need.

Fred A. Bristol, Jr. Scholarship

This endowment provides scholarship funding for students enrolled in the College of Science and Mathematics.  Selection is based on GPA and who are making satisfactory progress toward graduation.

Donald Busek Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship is given to a student enrolled in the College of Science and Mathematics in their junior or senior year.  Preference is given to students from Ward County in North Dakota.

President Chapman and First Lady Gale Willner Chapman Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student enrolled in the College of Science and Mathematics at the junior senior standing and must be a full-time student.

Jack and Jan Fuller Scholarship

This endowment provides scholarship funding for students enrolled in the College of Science and Mathematics.  Selection is based on GPA and attained the academic rank of junior at the time of disbursement.

Randy L. Gegelman Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship provides funding for students enrolled in the College of Science and Mathematics with a grade point average of 3.5 or above.

Graduate School Research Award

A $1,000 award is given in recognition of outstanding contributions made to research by a graduate student in the college.

Graduate School Teaching Award

This $1,000 award is given to recognize outstanding contributions made to teaching by a graduate student in the college who performs significant classroom or laboratory teaching responsibilities.

Hinsz Science and Mathematics Education Scholarship

This scholarship is given to an undergraduate whose intention is to pursue a Grade 7-12 mathematics teaching career in North Dakota.

Kenneth Hoefs Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is given to undergraduate students majoring the College of Science and Mathematics. Recipients must be residents of North Dakota with preference given to candidates from Hankinson, North Dakota. The student must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Scholarships will be renewed for a four-year period, provided the recipient continues to meet the award eligibility criteria. This scholarship will cover the in-state tuition and standard student fees.  This scholarship is awarded to one freshman, one sophomore, one junior and one senior.

McCarthy Science Teacher Education Scholarship

Scholarships for students planning teaching careers, and who are enrolled in physical science or earth science departments of the college.

Lucille McMahon Heggeness Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given to a student entering their sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.6.

William McMahon Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given to a student entering their sophomore year with a minimum GPA of 3.6.

Ralph L. Pitman Memorial Award

A fund provided for the benefit of the College of Science and Mathematics.  As such, the fund is being used to honor the graduating senior student with the highest GPA and most credit hours taken at NDSU.

Steinhaus-Rhinehart Scholarship

This endowment provides scholarship assistance to students entering their senior year in the Colleges of Science and Mathematics or Agriculture, majoring in a biological science (animal and range science, biochemistry, biological sciences, biotechnology, botany, crop and weed sciences, horticulture, microbiology or zoology), and who plan to do research and attend graduate school in the area of biological science.  This endowment was established by Mrs. Mabry C. Steinhaus in honor of her husband, Edward A. Steinhaus, and his parents, Alice Rhinehart and Arthur A. Steinhaus.

Rachel K. Roen Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship is given to a student who is a resident of North Dakota and entering a field of science and mathematics.

NDSU Development Foundation Dr. Robert and Mary Ann Tucker Presidential Research Fellowship Endowment Fund

This endowment is given to graduate students enrolled at NDSU entering the second fund year of the graduate program in the Department of Chemistry or for the same student in subsequent years pending satisfactory program in the student’s course work.  The student must maintain a grade point average of 3.25 and be interested in conducting materials chemistry research.

Biological Sciences

Bleier International Studies Scholarship

This scholarship is given to a junior or senior with a declared major in the Department of Biological Sciences.  The student must be signed up for or enrolled in an international education experience.  Preference is given for international experiences in which English is not the primary language. 

Cassel Undergraduate Research Awards

A research award available to junior or senior undergraduate students with declared major in the Department of Biological Sciences. This award provides the recipient with funds for research expenses and a personal stipend. 

Gary K. Clambey Scholarship

A scholarship to recognize Dr. Gary K. Clambey’s commitment to students.  This scholarship is for an outstanding junior or senior in the Department of Biological Sciences. 

Shelia Kath Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is given to graduate student enrolled in a major within the Department of Biological Sciences. 

G. Arthur Larson Scholarship

An award provided from an endowment established by Mrs. G.A. Larson in memory of her husband, Dr. G. Arthur Larson, a prominent Fargo ophthalmologist, to a student pursing a pre-medicine program of study at NDSU.  Selection was based on superior academic performance and financial need. 

Oliver L. Lavoy Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is given to a graduate student pursuing a master’s degree in natural resources. 

Linz Family Endowed Ornithology Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is given to a graduate student making satisfactory progress toward completion of a Ph.D. degree from the University and conducting scholarly research in the field of ornithology. 

Harvey K. Nelson Scholarship

A scholarship established to honor Harvey K. Nelson’s contributions to waterfowl and wetland research.  This scholarship is for graduate students in biological sciences and provides financial assistance and research funds. 

Ries and Startz Family Scholarship

A Scholarship established by the John B. Ries and Frank Startz families.  This scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate students in biological sciences. 

Dr. Velva E. Rudd Scholarship

A scholarship in memory of Dr. Velva E. Rudd for a junior or senior majoring in biological sciences. 

Suzy Schmoll Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a graduate student majoring in biological sciences.  Preference is given for permanent residents (new Americans) or international students.

O.A. Stevens Memorial Scholarship

The outstanding senior biology major is presented with this cash award.  Selection is from biology majors on the basis of academic achievement and character as exemplified by Dr. O.A. Stevens, a true naturalist, NDSU service: 1909-1977. 

Warren C. Whitman Outstanding Botany Student Award

A case award is presented annually to an outstanding senior in biological sciences.  Selection is on the basis of academic achievement and performance.

Donald Bolin Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to outstanding students majors in chemistry.

Chemistry Department Honor Scholarship

A scholarship presented to chemistry majors on the basis of scholastic achievement.

Philip and Gertrude Boudjouk Chemistry Graduate Student Fellowship Fund

Scholarships given to outstanding graduate students in chemistry.

Ralph E. Dunbar Memorial Scholarship

Scholarships awarded to chemistry majors on the basis of scholastic achievement and character as exemplified by Ralph E. Dunbar, Dean of the College of Chemistry and Physics, 1945-1960.

James D. Geerdes Memorial Endowment

An endowment established to provide assistance to graduate students enrolled in the program of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology within the Department of Chemistry and Molecular Biology during the time of actual disbursement.  The recipient must also be from the states of North Dakota or Minnesota.

Elnore A. and Ronald J. Grow Scholarship Endowment Fund

This scholarship is given to a woman declaring a major in chemistry at a sophomore or above level with a GPA of 2.75 or above.

Dr. Harold and Mary Ann Klosterman Merit Scholarship Fund

This endowment is to serve as an ongoing source of financial support for students enrolled in the Chemistry and Molecular Biology Program.  Preference will be given to a student interested in Biochemistry/Biotechnology.

Kosse-Harchenko Chemistry Scholarship Endowment

This endowed scholarship is awarded to a full-time student majoring in chemistry in the College of Science and Mathematics.  Preference is given to a junior or senior with a GPA of 3.0 or above.  The student must demonstrate financial need established by the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships.

Edwin Fremont Ladd Endowed Scholarship in Analytical Chemistry

A scholarship presented to an outstanding graduate student in Analytical Chemistry.

Roy Milde Fellowship Award

A scholarship presented to an outstanding graduate student who has been enrolled in the chemistry program for more than one year.  Preference is given to graduates of high schools and colleges in North Dakota and the upper Midwest.

Margaret (Groethe) and J.H. Stickelmeyer Memorial Chemistry Scholarship Endowment

This endowment is given to a junior or senior with a declared major offered by the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry with at least a GPA of 3.0.

James and May Sugihara Scholarship

A scholarship presented to outstanding students majoring in chemistry.

Richard Glenn Wedel Memorial Scholarship

A scholarship presented to an outstanding student majoring in chemistry.

Coatings and Polymeric Materials

Albert C. Bean, Sr. Foundation Scholarship

A scholarship awarded by the Tnemec Company and its representatives to students entering their junior or senior year and minoring in coatings and polymeric materials science.

BASF Coatings Excellence Scholarship

Students who are pursuing a minor or graduate degree in Coatings and Polymeric Materials having a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and above. 

Matt Huertz Annual Scholarship Fund

This scholarship is awarded to students who have declared a minor in Coatings and Polymeric Materials.

George Nichols Scholarship

A scholarship awarded to an outstanding student interested in polymers and coatings science.

Northwest Society for Coatings Technology Scholarship

Scholarship awarded to students interested in Coatings Science.

Carl Pfiffner and Jerri Hall Pfiffner Endowed Scholarship Fund

A scholarship awarded to a student enrolled in a degree program with the Department of Coatings and Polymeric Materials with a GPA of 3.0 or greater.

PPG Industries Foundation Scholarship

This scholarship is given to a student working toward a minor and/or graduate degree in coatings and polymeric materials.  The student must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or greater.

Alfred Rheineck Memorial Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a first-year graduate student in the Coatings and Polymeric Materials Department.

Zeno Wicks Scholarship
Dr. Dallas D. and V. Eileen Zimmerman Scholarship Endowment Fund

This endowed scholarship is awarded to a student in the Ph.D. program in Coatings and Polymeric Materials.

Geosciences

Allan C. Ashworth Scholarship 

A scholarship of $1,000 to the Geology major at the senior level with the highest academic standing.  Funds provided by alumni and friends of the Geosciences Department.

John and Margaret Brophy Scholarship

A scholarship of $1,000 to an outstanding Geology undergraduate (any level) as named by the faculty of Geosciences.

Field Camp Scholarship

A scholarship of $250 to support students attending an approved Field Camp. Funds provided by alumni and friends of the Geosciences Department.

Warren D. and Normal Kress Mayflower Endowment

This endowed scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate and/or a graduate student in the Geosciences Department.

Lake Agassiz Rock Club Scholarship    

The Glossary of Geology and a $350 cash scholarship are given by the Lake Agassiz Rock Club to the Geology major at the junior level on the basis of scholastic achievement.

Sophomore Scholarship 

A scholarship of $250 to the outstanding Geology major at the sophomore level.

"Green Hammer" Scholarship 

A geological rock pick and a $200 scholarship to the outstanding Geology major at the first-year level.

Mathematics

Phyllis and Robert Anderson Scholarship in Memory of A. Glenn Hill

A scholarship for a mathematics major who has distinguished himself/herself through his/her work in mathematics and has excelled academically, demonstrating a high probability for success.

Davis Cope Scholarship

A scholarship for a mathematics major who has proven scholarship ability and leadership, demonstrating the potential to make a special contribution in the field of mathematics.

David Ferguson Scholarship

A scholarship awarded to a student majoring in mathematics and enrolled in ROTC or a returning military student. If no one qualifies for this scholarship, then the scholarship will be based on need.

A scholarship awarded to majors in the mathematical sciences who have distinguished themselves academically and have strong promise of success in their chosen fields.

Lonnie Hass Scholarship

A scholarship for a mathematics major with proven academic and leadership ability who displays the potential to make a special contribution in the field of mathematics.

Hawthorn Mathematics Scholarship Endowment Fund

A scholarship for a non-traditional mathematics or mathematics education major with demonstrated need.

Hill-Tidd Scholarship

A scholarship awarded to majors in the mathematical sciences who have distinguished themselves academically and have strong promise of success in their chosen fields.

Jim and Joyce Johnston Math Endowment Scholarship

Students must have a declared major in a program offered by the Department of Mathematics, have a cumulative GPA of 3.1 or greater on a 4.0 scale, and attained the academic rank of sophomore or greater.

Mark and Carol Kiemele Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to a student pursing a major in the Mathematics Department.  They must be a full-time junior or senior.  Preference is given to a student pursuing a double major in statistics and mathematics.  Preference is also given to a student in Air Force ROTC.

A scholarship awarded to majors in the mathematical sciences who have distinguished themselves academically and have strong promise of success in their chosen fields.

James H. Olsen Scholarship Fund

A scholarship for a mathematics major or double major who is ready for 400-level mathematics courses and who displays the potential to make a contribution to the field of mathematics as gleaned from the input of mathematics faculty members.

Lloyd Olson Scholarship

A scholarship awarded to majors in the mathematical sciences who have distinguished themselves academically and have strong promise of success in their chosen fields.

Warren E. Shreve Scholarship

A scholarship for a mathematics major with proven academic and leadership ability who displays the potential to make a special contribution in the field of mathematics.

Matilda Thompson Scholarship

A scholarship for an individual who has demonstrated excellence in mathematics and strong character; one who has given leadership on campus and participated in University activities.

Physics

Eivind Horvik Memorial Award

An award for the best overall performance in the calculus-based physics sequence.

Physics Scholarship Endowment Fund

An award to physics majors given to excellence in physics and mathematics and distinction in undergraduate research.

Sinha Family Scholarship

A scholarship to physics juniors or seniors based on academic merit and financial need.

Darrell and Carol Strobel Graduate Research Award

This award is established to recognize and encourage excellence in graduate research in Physics.

Darrell and Carol Strobel Graduate Excellence Award

This award is established to recognize a graduate physics student for excellence in one or several of the following: academic achievements, teaching and instruction, research accomplishments, service contributions.

Darrell and Carol Strobel Undergraduate Excellence Award

This award is established to recognize an undergraduate physics major for excellence in one or several of the following: academic achievements, teaching and instruction, research accomplishments, service contributions. 

Psychology

Dr. Patricia Beatty Scholarship

This scholarship is presented on behalf of Patricia Beatty, who was a faculty member in our department for many years and left a generous endowment to the department for scholarships for psychology majors.  This award is given annually to outstanding psychology juniors.  Criteria for this scholarship include attaining junior status during this academic year, maintaining full-time status with satisfactory progress (GPA at least 3.0), and continuing to be a psychology major. 

E.V. Estensen Outstanding Psychology Major Award

Awarded annually to a psychology major judged to be the outstanding senior major of the year.  Criteria included demonstrated excellence in academic work, interest in performance of research, and participation in departmental activities and organizations.

Statistics

H.P. Kuang Scholarship

A scholarship awarded to undergraduate students in recognition of their interest and academic ability in statistics as displayed in their college achievements.  This scholarship is from funds offered in memory of H.P. Kuang.
