Student Loan Service Center

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION STUDENT DEBT CANCELLATION.

 

On August 24, 2022, the Department of Education announced a targeted student debt cancellation to borrowers with loans held by the Department of Education. 

The targeted student debt cancellation does not apply to campus-based Perkins Loans, Nursing Student Loans, or any other loans that are currently owned/managed by the school as these are not federally held loans. Specific details about the process have not been released yet.  We suggest that all borrowers access the Federal Student Aid website at StudentAid.gov/debtrelief for the most up-to-date information.

The North Dakota University System Student Loan Service Center (SLSC)

 

The NDUS Student Loan Service Center (SLSC) provides loan servicing for Perkins, Nursing and other institutional loans issued and owned by the eleven state colleges and universities in the North Dakota University System.  These schools include:

Servicing activites include, among other tasks, monitoring borrower status, processing deferment and cancellation request forms, providing billing and communications, processing payments and responding to borrower inqiries.  The SLSC uses a company called ECSI to assist with processing statments and notices, collecting payments, processing forms and providing basic customer service.  ECSI also provides a borrower web portal that can be used to review loan information, set up recurring ACH payments and make payments online

New users on the ECSI borrower portal can review the Truth in Lending Statement for login information or contact ECSI for assistance.

 Borrower's Rights

  • To repay all or part of your loan(s) before the maturity date without penalty.
  • To a grace period after graduation or discontinuing enrollment as outlined in the loan promissory note.
    • During the grace period payments are not required.
    • For Perkins and Nursing loans interest does not accrue.
    • Interest may accrue during the grace period on some other types of institutional loans, please refer to your promissory note.  
    • Repayment of the loan does not begin until the grace period has expired.
  • To request a copy of your promissory note(s) at any time. 
    • To make a request email the SLSC at ndus.slsc@ndus.edu
    • The SLSC services many types of loans, some have very different terms and obligations which are described in detail in the loan promissory note.
  • To Cancellation and Deferment benefits as outlined in the loan promissory note and pursuant to applicable federal and state laws and regulations.

Borrower's Responsibilities

  • Review your Promissory Note(s) to ensure you understand your financial rights and responsibilities.
  • Make on time payments
    • Payments are due the 1st of every month regardless of whether or not you receive a billing statement. 
    • Late fees are assessed on accounts if the payment is not received by the 10th of the month.
    • ECSI will mail or email, if you choose online billing, your first billing statement 15 days prior to your first payment due date.
    • Notify ECSI or the Student Loan Service Center if payment cannot be made by the due date.  
  • Notify ECSI or the Student Loan Service Center if there is any change of personal information such as, name, address, phone or email.
  • File appropriate forms, such as for deferment or cancellation, in a timely manner.
    • When requesting a deferment, forbearance, cancellation or demographic information change you are responsible for providing all required documentation requested by the SLSC or ECSI in a timely fashion.
  • Understand the consequences for Default - failing to remit payments on time.
