Applied Meteorology and Climatology
Climatology maintains the North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network and data dissemination system established in 1989. The objective is to provide current weather data essential for grower management decisions and for the development and operational use of agricultural decision making models. These data are also used to assess the potential for wind-generated electricity in North Dakota. Climatic trends, cycles, and variations in air temperature and precipitation throughout the north central region is evaluated in conjunction with participants of the CSRS North Central Regional Research Committee. Long term climatic data sets free from urbanization, time of observation, location, and instrument change bias are being developed for several stations within each state, with the overall goal of evaluating global weather change.
