Technology Fee Advisory Committee
Meeting Minutes - Friday, March 23, 2007, 2 p.m.
Committee members met to review the issues related to proposal 0702 (New Classroom Technology) as per the meeting on March 9.
Rosi Kloberdanz submitted a four page letter to the committee responding to the questions TFAC had regarding equipment costs for both instrumented classrooms and throughout the campus.
In the letter it outlined the differences between the costs of commercial line of computers vs computers for home use. The same applies for other equipment bought for heavy use (commercial use). The equipment used on campus must be sturdy, reliable, and be a standardized model/brand for easy in configuring video cards, adaptors, memory and for imaging requirements. Prices can go up and down at any given moment—ITS works diligently to obtain the best bids possible on all equipment.
The letter also reviewed whether there’d be major cost savings if ITS would go to a 4-year replacement cycle instead of 3-year. The savings was very minimal.
Additionally, maintenance and support costs were reviewed as a deliverable that’s expected, but very difficult to actually cost out.
Although cabinetry is not a “technology” it is an important component in the over scheme of maintaining some semblance to housing the equipment in a classroom environment. ITS is willing to pursue options with others entitles on campus in regard to the TFAC concern.
After discussion the following was recommend: Fund project at $67,190.00
The committee also voted to recommend “outside funding be sought for the cabinets. In the event that no outside funding can be found, use the money from the allocation to fund them but then fund fewer classrooms. Also, recommend evaluating the use of high end remote Gyro Tracker mouse.”
No further discussion.
