Resources for Refreshing your Academic Skills

If it’s been a while since high school, or you just need to brush up on some academic fundamentals so that you're off to a good start on your first day of college, VET tutors can help you with that.  Even if you’re not able to make it into our physical classrooms, there are still some GREAT online resources to help you do that!  Check these out, and let us know how else we can help!:

Khan Academy - A personalized learning resource for all ages!  Khan Academy offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard that empower learners to study at their own pace in and outside of the classroom: math, science, computer programming, history, art history, economics, and more.  Guides learners from kindergarten to calculus using state-of-the-art, adaptive technology that identifies strengths and learning gaps.

March 2 Success – Free, interactive, self-paced online course that enhances and refreshes students’ knowledge in a range of academic areas to prepare them for standardized tests and college.  Remedial courses are generated based on subject-specific assessments to tailor learning to the individual.  HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! – Take a FREE online college math and/or English readiness assessment, and then follow a personalized study path at your own pace to fill in any knowledge gaps.  There are also Accuplacer prep and SAT/ACT prep tracks to get you ready for your college's placement exams!      

TutorND – FREE online tutoring from professional tutors in major subjects like math, science, social studies, English, and writing for North Dakota residents.  Students from kindergarten through college can get help.  A service of the North Dakota State Library.  Check the website for full details.

GCF LearnFree – Free, self-paced, online learning system with modules covering over 125 topics in high school level math, life and personal management skills, English grammar, reading comprehension, and computer skills to get you ready for college level classes. – Explore over 5,700 free videos in 13 subject areas including basic arithmetic and algebra through calculus and statistics, lab sciences, History and Economics, and English grammar.

Learn a range of computer skills starting with the very basics and working up from there.  From just logging on and using the mouse and keyboard, to using email, researching on the internet, and the basics of the common Microsoft Office products (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) needed for college and working-world success.  Watch a helpful video presentation on each topic, and then work through the student exercises.  Click here to start learning!   

Excel Easy - Want to learn about Microsoft Excel?  Whether you're just a beginner or advanced user, this site contains tutorials and examples for effectively using this helpful and powerful software tool.  Learn the basics and more on this FREE site. 

Moorhead (MN) Adult Basic Education Program - FREE classes for adult learners to improve basic math skills, reading, prepare for a GED, or improve skills and knowledge to improve your employability.  Day, Evening, and Online classes are offered.  

You're not going to try to type a term paper with two fingers, are you?!  Learn (again?) how to type fast on a full computer keyboard!
