TRIO Upward Bound

Academic School Year Services (September-May)

  • Tutoring and mentoring provided by NDSU students. Get your questions about classes and assignments answered, get help with homework and projects, build your skills, and visit with your mentors about being a college student. You will have opportunities to meet with tutors at least once per week. There are options for one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, and peer learning. Plus we have Academic Resource Saturday meeting times too.

  • Workshops on the NDSU campus join all the UB participants from across the metro once per month to explore topics and learning including: academic skill development; time management; study skills, personal/social development; leadership; ACT preparation; career and college readiness; financial literacy; finding scholarships; applying to colleges. Great learning and a wonderful time to connect with your UB friends.

  • Advising on academic planning and goal setting, college access and finding the college that works best for you, finding scholarships, applying for financial aid, career and employment exploration, and preparing for your college transition. You will have an opportunity to meet with an advisor at least once per month.

Summer Program (June and July)

  • Community building and engagement
  • 6 weeks of non-credit academic instruction in Math, English, Lab Science and Foreign Language
  • Field trips to colleges, museums and other cultural events
  • Opportunities to stay in a college dorm with overnight programming on a college campus
  • Career exploration and financial literacy workshops
  • Community service opportunities
  • Social activities
  • Bridge: 6-8 weeks of for-credit college courses at NDSU for graduating students who are starting college in the fall. All class fees and supplies paid for by Upward Bound, credits can be transferred to the student’s college of attendance. A great jump-start to your first year in college!
