Taro is a widely grown plant, mostly in the tropics, for food and sometimes as an ornamental plant. As an ornamental plant, Taro is great for uses around water landscapes. The Taro plant also has edible corms and leaf vegetables that is a staple in oceanic diets. Taro is very much like the potato, which is why it is sometimes dubbed as the “potato of the humid tropics.” Others label the Taro plant as “elephant ear” due to its large leaves that can grow up to two feet long. The plant itself can reach a height up to three to seven feet tall. The Taro plant is also speculated to be one of the earliest cultivated plants.
