Class Notes


  • Marian “Kay” (Goetz) Richter, 72, BS ’63 English, worked for Macy’s for 13 years. She taught Sunday school and volunteered for Senior Support, Hope Hospice and Operation Christmas Child. She lived in Pleasanton, Calif.
  • William “Bumpy” Hendrickx, 57, BA ’83 animal science, was a loan specialist for the USDA Farm Service Agency in Devils Lake, N.D. A member of the NDSU rodeo team as a student, he participated in ranch rodeos and roping competitions until recent years. He lived in Devils Lake.
  • Debbra “Debbie” Mattson, 60, BS ’77 pharmacy, worked as a pharmacist at the Hennepin County Medical Center for six years. In 1983, she moved to Roseau, Minn., to participate in the family business, Mattson Pharmacy. She worked at Mattson Pharmacy and later at the Greenbush, Minn., Pharmacy, until her retirement in 2009. She lived in Greenbush.
  • Leland Briggle, 93, BS ’49, MS ’51 agronomy, earned his doctorate at Iowa State University and worked to develop disease-resistant cereal crops with a goal to reduce world hunger. He lived in Minneapolis.
  • Andrew Butz, 47, BS ’90 mechanical engineering, worked for Boeing Co. in Seattle and later went to work for Johnson Controls Inc. in Holland, Mich. He lived in Holland.
  • James Kuddes, 66, BS ’70 economics, retired after 33 years as a manager for K-Mart Stores. He lived in St. Peters, Mo.
  • Harold Goetz, 81, BS ’60, MS ’63 botany, was a teacher, researcher and administrator at NDSU and Colorado State University. He was chair of the NDSU botany and biology department and served as chair of the Tri-College University Center for Environmental Studies. After teaching at Tehran University in Iran, he was chair of the range science department at CSU. He lived in Fort Collins, Colo.
  • Bonita (Kasper) Kluck, 58, BS ’78 , hotel motel restaurant management, managed the Town and Country Shopping Center and Dakota Square in Minot, N.D. In 1988, she moved to Denver to manage the North Valley Mall and Lakeside Mall. She later returned to Minot and worked at JC Penney and Trinity Gift Shop. She lived in Minot.
  • Orlin Lyng, 84, BS ’59 agricultural education, worked 31 years for the Soil Conservation Service in Forman, Linton and Bismarck, N.D. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans and American Legion, retired captain of the Bismarck Mounted Police and past president of the Bismarck Horse Club. He lived in Bismarck.
  • Thomas Larson, 81, BS ’55 civil engineering, worked as an engineer for the North Dakota Department of Transportation until 1961 and then continued working for construction companies as an estimator and supervisor. Until recently, he was doing engineering work for a large California fruit and vegetable farm on a part-time basis. He lived in Ventura, Calif.
