Class Notes


  • Thomas Sczepanski, BS ’16 biotechnology, joined Aldevron, Fargo, as a bio-manufacturing operator. Aldevron serves the biotechnology industry with custom production of nucleic acids, proteins and antibodies.
  • Brad Nordstrom, MS ’05 education, is the owner of Maximum Performance and Fitness, Fargo. He started a weight loss challenge for his members, with proceeds going to Giving Hearts Day charities. The challenge was won by NDSU Graduate School employee Madonna Fitzgerald and her partner. A total of $1,500 went to Special Olympics, while two other charities received contributions of $900 and $600.
  • Jayne Albrecht, 57, AD ’79 textiles and clothing, worked 30 years at the McHenry County Farm Service Agency. She lived in Towner, North Dakota.
  • Lila (Vilhauer) Rector, 73, BS ’88 home economics, served in the ministry with her husband in several communities in Texas, Minnesota and North Dakota. She lived in Dilworth, Minnesota.
  • Myron Birkeland, 83, BS ’56 agricultural education, was a vocational agriculture teacher and FFA adviser at New Rockford High School. He later worked at Rockford Oil and Town and Country Motors of New Rockford and Carrington, North Dakota. He lived in New Rockford.
  • Donna (Kist) Van Sickle, 77, diploma ’60 Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing, worked as a nurse for more than 20 years at Dakota Hospital in Fargo and later was director of nursing at Gwah-Ching Center, a psychiatric facility in Walker, Minnesota. She lived in Roseville Minnesota. 
  • Burton Piper, 97, BS ’41 electrical and electronic engineering, worked 40 years with Westinghouse Electric Corp. of Pittsburgh, where his work took him to Iran, Saudi Arabia and several cities across the country. He lived in New Rockford, North Dakota
  • Jacob Sigmund, 85, honorary alumnus ’83 owned S&S Construction Co. in Moorhead, Minnesota; F-M Asphalt of Dilworth, Minnesota; and Lakes Paving in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota. He later purchased the Rivera Heights Mobile Home Park in Fargo and the Treetop Restaurant in Moorhead. He was an NDSU Foundation Life Trustee. He lived in Fort Collins, Colorado.
  • Rosella (Fandrich) Greenshields, 90, Diploma ’47 Bismarck Hospital School of Nursing, operated a ranch with her husband near Dodge, North Dakota. She lived in Bismarck, North Dakota.
  • Bernard Bayliss, 83, BS ’58 electrical and electronic engineering, worked at the Grand Forks Air Force Base from 1967 until his retirement in 1992.  He lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
