  • Donald Novaria, 95, BS ’48 arts and science, worked for the Chevrolet Motor Division of General Motors for 34 years, rising to zone manager of the Milwaukee area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy Air Corps and lived in Hinsdale, Illinois. 
  • Steve Swiontek, BS ’78 business administration, honorary doctorate ’06, was among 10 business leaders recognized by Prairie Business magazine with Leaders and Legacies Awards. The publication honored some of the most successful and civic-minded leaders in the region. He is chairman and past president and CEO of Gate City Bank, Fargo.
  • Paul Steffes, BS ’73 mechanical engineering, was among 10 business leaders recognized by Prairie Business magazine with Leaders and Legacies Awards. The publication honored some of the most successful and civic-minded leaders in the region. He is the founder and chief innovation adviser for Steffes LLC, Dickinson, North Dakota.
  • Lonnie Laffen, BArch ’82 architecture, BA ’82, architectural studies, was among 10 business leaders recognized by Prairie Business magazine with Leaders and Legacies Awards. The publication honored some of the most successful and civic-minded leaders in the region. He is president of JLG Architects, with offices in North Dakota, Minnesota and South Dakota.
  • Keith Monson, 71, BS ’69 agricultural economics, was a farmer and insurance adjustor and also worked for Griggs County 319 and Dakota Turbines. He was an active member of the Griggs County Water Board. He lived in Cooperstown, North Dakota.
  • Timothy Thiel, 62, BS ’81 leisure studies and recreation, managed state parks in North Dakota and later worked on a dairy farm. He lived in Lefor, North Dakota. 
  • Allen Groven, 85, BS ’60 agricultural engineering, was a civil and forest engineer for the U.S. Forest Service for more than 30 years. He was an Army veteran who lived in Windsor, Colorado.
  • Roseleen (Burke) Arneson, 79, BUS ’81 university studies, was a bookkeeper and later a caseworker for Alpha Opportunities. She was a veteran of the British Women’s Royal Naval Service and the North Dakota National Guard. She lived in Jamestown, North Dakota.
  • Eugene Cederberg, 87, MS ’65 educational administration, was a high school business teacher and coach. He also served on the Central Cass School Board for 10 years. He lived in Casselton, North Dakota.
  • Dr. John LaLonde, 89, MS ’54 chemistry, was a physician and surgeon. He was chief of staff at the Bemidji, Minnesota, Hospital. He was an Army veteran who lived in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
