"Nine-tenths of the universe, in fact, is the paperwork."  - as any Chair knows
From "Thief of Time" (author Terry Pratchett)

Polymeric coatings are a rich and fascinating materials science requiring polymer synthesis, polymer physics and electrochemistry.  Coatings are, and will probably aways be, the principal means of controlling appearance and providing protection in applications all around us. Coating science remains a fertile and interesting field because many modern inventions require protection, appearance or a special function provided by coatings; even nanomaterals are often deployed as a coating.
