Key to species of Graphosoma

1      Longitudinal, black stripes on pronotum interrupted, forming transverse rows of spots; the longitudinal, lateral black stripes of the scutellum are submarginal, so lateral margins of scutellum are red; lateral margins of connexiva entirely red or yellow, sometimes only narrowly so

2

-       Longitudinal, black stripes on pronotum not interrupted; the longitudinal, lateral black stripes of the scutellum are marginal, so lateral margins of scutellum are black; lateral margins of connexiva alternating black and red or yellow

4

2(1)  Lateral margin of each evaporative area with two black spots, sometimes coalescing to form one elongate curved black spot

3

-       Lateral margin of each evaporative area lacking black spots, or with at most a posterolateral black spot only

consimile Horváth

3(2)  Lateral margins of connexiva narrowly pale (Canary Islands)

interruptum White

-       Lateral margins of connexiva broadly red or yellow (widespread)

semipunctatum (Fabricius)

4(1)  Stigmata red or yellow; scutellum with four black marks; Head 1.40-1.45 times as broad as long; genital stylus of male with one tooth

stali Horváth

-       Stigmata black; scutellum with four longitudinal black bands, which are rarely shortened; head 1.2 (1.15-1.30) times as broad as long; genital stylus of male with 2-3 points or teeth

5

5(4)   Mesial margin of corium, next to scutellum red or yellow; vertex 3.9-5.0 times as broad as an eye; genital stylus of male with two teeth.

lineatum (Linnaeus)

-        Mesial margin of corium, next to scutellum black, at least to basal angle; vertex at least 5.5 times as broad as an eye; genital stylus of male with two or three points or teeth

6

6(5)   Smaller, 10-11 mm in length; yellow with black markings; metapleuron with black mark posterior to evaporative area; genital stylus of male with two pointed teeth

melanoxanthum Horváth

-        Larger, over 12 mm in length; red with black markings; metapleuron with oblong black mark next to evaporative area; genital stylus of male with one tooth and two points

rubrolineatum (Westwood)

Tribal Placement: This genus serves as the type genus for the tribe Graphosomatini in the subfamily Podopinae.
