Acronicta sperata Grote 1873

Common name: listed here as  Hopeful dagger moth.

Hodges #: 9258.

Identification: Rfw 16.7 mm, fws powdery gray without dagger marks, median area contrastingly paler, hws nearly white in male, tibiae without setae, eyes lacking hair or lashes.

Similar species: 9193, 9199, 9250, 9251.

Distribution: southern Canada and temperate United States, southward in the Rockies.

Hosts: Larvae feed on Populus– poplars and Alnus– alders.
