Identification key to the Notodontidae occurring in the Dakotas

 

4C5.  (4C4)   Ventrally, eighth sternite of male deeply incised and with minute pits, pits only visible when
            scales removed and viewed under magnification.  Fw with reniform represented by a black, or black
            centered white spot; transverse lines hardly darker than ground color except as dark and light spots at
            veins.  Lines traceable by pale filling in well marked specimens.  Lochmaeus manteo  Doubleday.

 

                        

 

 

4C5.' Ventrally, eighth sternite of male entire and with large pits, pits visible with a hand lens with scales present.
            Fw reniform represented by a black, white edged crescent; transverse lines double, black with white filling,
            most marked in cells CuA2 and the fold.  Lochmaeus bilineata (Packard).
