Elachistidae: Ethmiinae


Ethmia monticola (Walsingham 1880)

Common name: listed here as ‘Gray ethmia.’

Hodges #: 987.

Identification: Rfw 12.7 mm, fw with Rs4 running to costa, fw steel gray with a few black dots, proboscis with scales, abdomen bright orange.

Similar species: 978, 980, 992, 999, 1001 and 1003.

Distribution: Western U. S., eastward in temperate areas to the Atlantic.

Hosts: Lithospermum canescens (Michx.) Lehm.– Hoary puccoon, and possibly other Lithospermum spp.
