Description

Fit & Strong! is an exercise/behavior change program developed by researchers at the University of Illinois for older adults or those with lower extremity osteoarthritis. 
Fit & Strong! blends a multiple component exercise program with group problem solving /education using a curriculum designed to facilitate arthritis symptom management, confidence in ability to exercise safely with arthritis, and commitment to lifestyle change.

It is a 12-week program that includes 60-minutes of exercise and 30-minutes of group discussion/health education.

Fit & Strong! helps participants:

  • Gain a clear understanding of what osteoarthritis is and how physical activity that is tailored to the needs of persons with arthritis can help them manage arthritis symptoms
  • Learn to perform safe stretching, balance, aerobic and strengthening, exercises which gradually increase in frequency, duration, and intensity over time
  • Incorporate physical activity into their lifestyles
