The lower level of the 10,083-square foot Hastings Hall is home to the Advanced Traffic Analysis Center and the Department of Transportation Support Center, both programs of the Upper Great Plains Transportation Institute. The Advanced Traffic Analysis Center provides support to decision makers who plan, operate and fund transportation systems at local, regional and state levels. Staff and students maintain state-of-the-art computer hardware and software and provide facilities for conducting research, training and service. The center’s staff primarily consists of transportation engineers and undergraduate students from civil engineering, computer science and electrical engineering. Hastings Hall houses staff offices and a laboratory that has computing and traffic data collection equipment. The support center employs students to work on North Dakota Department of Transportation design projects under the direction of department engineers. The work provides them real-world experience and provides valuable assistance to the department. Staff members also conduct research to address regional issues in North Dakota and surrounding states. Hastings Hall houses offices for NDSU and Department of Transportation staff affiliated with the center, as well as computer-aided design workstations and computer servers.
