Research 1 Addition (R1A) is a 35,000-square-foot research facility located within the NDSU Research and Technology Park complex. Connected to the Research 1 (R1) building, the facility serves as a hub for material synthesis, processing and characterization, supporting interdisciplinary research and collaboration with industry partners. R1A houses specialized laboratories focused on combinatorial materials research and features advanced tools for materials processing and analysis, including robotic machinery designed to accelerate scientific discovery and innovation. The facility also supports the Materials Characterization, Analysis and Fabrication (MCAF) Core, which provides technical expertise and access to advanced equipment in support of coating technologies, anti-fouling and anti-microbial research and other cutting-edge materials science initiatives.
