Gear up for Giving Day 2020

NDSU Giving Day on Tuesday, December 1 offers a convenient online opportunity to contribute to help future pharmacists, nurses, allied sciences and public health professionals.

While we are rising to the challenges of educating students and providing clinical experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic, your continued investment in students makes a critical difference.

“Businesses and households routinely budget for unforeseen circumstances and so does the College of Health Professions,” says Dean Charles D. Peterson. “Costs in a global event of this magnitude, however, have changed significantly during the pandemic. From the need for personal protective equipment, altered schedules, support for technology for students and emergency funds are all part of a complex equation,” says Peterson.

“Our students are helping the state as contact tracers during COVID-19, are trained and supervised to administer COVID tests, and have provided care packages to fellow students in quarantine,” says Peterson. “Faculty members help serve as advisors in public health and other areas of expertise.”

It’s now more important than ever to make a positive impact.

Funds raised on Giving Day support scholarships and enhance programs and student opportunities in the College of Health Professions. Contributions also make it possible for students to participate in virtual professional meetings, leadership programs, community outreach and global opportunities.

NDSU alumni such as Sharon Pollock Puppe (B.A. ’72) and her husband Jim are among those who want to help students. They recently established scholarships for nursing students.

“I hope the scholarships give students encouragement and motivation like when I was in school,” says Sharon Puppe. “The community’s always been good to us. Good things happen here because people give and work to make them happen.”

Your gift on Giving Day provides a tangible investment in students becoming healthcare professionals.

Some alumni and friends are providing matches and challenges to further enhance contributions on December 1. For example, Jackie Nagel will match donations given to the Nursing Program Fund $1:$1, up to $5,000. The North Dakota Rexall Club will match donations given to the North Dakota Rexall Club Scholarship Endowment $1:$1, up to $4,000.

In addition, 25 gifts to the Public Health Program Fund will unlock $2,500 as part of the Fred and Linda Paavola Public Health Challenge. Sixty gifts to the Sudro Society Pharmacy Program Fund will unlock $2,500 as part of the Fred and Linda Paavola Sudro Society Challenge.

“This Giving Day is critically important. It supplies valuable resources that are otherwise not available to us to fund unanticipated expenses to ensure the success of our people and programs,” says Peterson.
