Red-legged grasshopper

Adults

  • Antennae red.
  • Post-ocular stripe ends abruptly at principal sulcu.
    • Stripe interrupted by pale spots.
  • Ventral surface of body often bright yellow.
  • Outer face of hind femur darkest apically, color fading basad.
    • Femur without cross-bands.
  • Inner face of hind femur yellow.
  • Hind tibia red.
  • Male subanal plate strongly arched laterally.
  • Male cercus 'boot' shaped without a heel.
  • Supra-anal plate trilobate.
  • Subanal plate with high, convex, lateral margins.
  • Female cercus with dorsal and ventral margins concave.
  • Ovipositor without dorsal tooth.
Nymphs
  • Black coloration is non-glossy.
  • White lateral crescent extends from mouthparts to metazona.
  • Outer face of hind femur with complete black band.
