Little spur-throated grasshopper

Adults

  • Body length < 2 cm.
  • Hind femur cross-banded with black.
  • Hind tibia gray-blue.
  • Male cercus an inverted 'boot with a heel and elongate toe.'
  • Furculae small
  • Subanal plate evenly rounded with a bilobed apex.
  • Ovipositor with weak dorsal tooth.
    • Dorsal margin convex.
Nymphs
  • Face with frontal ridge dark, areas below antennae light.
  • Gena and sides of pronotum pale gray.
  • Lateral white crescent extends from mouthparts to end of prozona.
  • Hind femur with broken dark bands.
  • Distinctive male cercus visible in later instar nymphs.
