Flabellate grasshopper

Adults

  • Inner face and ventral surface of hind femur bright red to orange.
  • Hind tibia blue.
  • Male cercus large and ear-like.
  • Furculae very short.
  • Female cercus about as broad as long.
  • Ovipositor with weak dorsal tooth.
Nymphs
  • Frontal area of face often darker than sides, as in M. infantilis.
  • Post-ocular stripe confined to prozona.
  • White lateral crescent extends from gena to metazona.
  • Hind femur with interrupted black cross-bands.
  • In later instars male cercus is distinctive.
