Migratory grasshopper

Adults

  • Black post-ocular stripe with lighter spots.
  • Pronotum somewhat 'saddle-shaped' in side view. Posterior lobe canted upward.
    • Lateral lobes constricted near principal sulcus.
  • Male with ventral meso-sternal hump.
  • Hind tibia blue, glaucus, or red.
  • Hind femur banding variable, ventral surface often orange.
  • Male cercus flattened, turned slightly upturned.
  • Subanal plate bilobed.
  • Furculae divergent.
  • Female cercus with convex dorsal and ventral surface
  • Ovipositor without dorsal tooth.
Nymphs
  • Eyes speckeled and faintly banded (life).
  • Post-ocular stripe extends onto metazona.
  • Lateral white crescent on prozona and below eye.
  • Hind femur with broken dark cross bands.
