Meet Hanna

English, B.A., NDSU, 2020
Theatre Arts, B.S., NDSU, 2020

I am the Office Manager for all of the student media here on campus – so The Spectrum, Bison Information Network, and KNDS. I also sometimes teach classes or do technical work for Fargo-Moorhead Community Theatre, and I also prepare legal transcripts through eScribers as a contractor.

How did your time as an English major prepare you for your current role or your career?

My English major helps me in so many ways all across the careers I’ve had and have, but it has been HUGE in helping me with my research and organizational skills. I’ve also become a much better communicator – not only in my professional career, but in my day-to-day life.

What advice would you give to someone considering an English major?

Having an English major opens up a lot of careers to you – don’t be afraid to explore! And keep your love of learning alive, even after graduation.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

My English major certainly helped me land the jobs I’ve had since graduating, but somewhat more importantly than that, it has taught me media literacy (both inside and outside of books), as well as strengthened my empathy and perspective, and I consider that even more important than my career trajectory. Now more than ever, being able to distinguish between what you’re being told and what’s actually happening is essential.
