2025 West River Judging Contest
About
Mercer County 4-H and Beulah FFA will be hosting an agronomy/crops, livestock (including non-reason goats), hippology and ag sales contest Saturday, February 22, 2025.
Contest registration will begin at 8 a.m. CT at Beulah High School for ALL contests. Registration fee for each contestant is $12 and includes lunch. Meal tickets for coaches, advisors, and spectators are $12 each. Make checks payable to Mercer County 4-H Council. You will be given tickets when you pay for your registration. These tickets are required to get your judging cards and Scantron score sheets.
The judging of livestock will take place at the fairgrounds in the hoop barns. Please dress accordingly. There is a walk from the high school to fairgrounds. No shuttle is provided. Reasons will be given at Beulah High School.
To help us plan for each of the contests, please register your team (includes hippology and jr. 4-H agronomy) by February 18, at noon. You will need to sign in to your Judging Card account to register. You can make changes on Judging Card until registration closes.
Schedule (CST)
8 a.m. Registration for ALL contestants is at the Beulah High School mezzanine
8:45 a.m. Welcome and Instructions – for all participants and coaches
9 a.m. Livestock contest begins at the Mercer County Fairgrounds
9 a.m. FFA Ag Sales contest begins at Zion Lutheran Church
9 a.m. Hippology contest begins at the Beulah Elementary School – Awards for hippology will be at the elementary school following the hippology contest
9:15 a.m. Agronomy/crops contest begins at the Fieldhouse (213 1st Ave NW), which is two blocks south of the high school. Jr. 4-H Crops begins at the Beulah High School Vo Ag Shop.
11 a.m. Lunch for Ag Sales, Agronomy and Hippology Judging contestants at the high school cafeteria. Livestock contestants will eat when they are done giving reasons.
2 p.m. (Estimated time) Awards presentation begins at the high school gym.
Age Divisions
Cloverbuds – Cannot register on Judging Card and compete in the contest unless they are 8 years old (4-H age) by September 1, 2024. They can pick up a set of different colored judging cards at the livestock registration table to go through the contest and give reasons. Their cards will be hand scored. Their score will not be entered in Judging Card.
4-H Crops and Livestock – Senior Division-4-H members who were age 13* to 18 by September 1, 2024 and Junior Division – 4-H members who were age 8 to 13* by September 1, 2024.
Note: *13 year old members may judge in either division.
4-H Hippology – Senior Division – 4-H members who were age 14 to 18 by September 1, 2024; Intermediate Division – 4-H members who were age 11 to 13 by September 1, 2024; Junior Division – 4-H members who were age 8 to 10 by September 1, 2024
FFA Agronomy – Senior and junior divisions (junior is 9th grade or lower)
FFA Livestock and Ag Sales – No separation of age division.
