Latest Disaster Preparedness Report - June 25, 2026

Daryl Ritchison
NDAWN Director and North Dakota State Climatologist

Summary

  • Severe weather threat this weekend. Saturday and Sunday the most likely, but severe weather in western North Dakota Friday, or eastern North Dakota on Monday are also possible. All parameters will be in play (tornadoes, wind and hail).
  • Some localized heavy rain also possible with the severe weather.
  • Eastern North Dakota will be noticeably warmer than western North Dakota this weekend. But all of the state will gradually move into much warmer temperatures next week. Temperatures may be well above average by and after the Independence Day weekend.
  • With that warmup with come hot and dry conditions in much of the state, meaning a quick dry down that may move more of the state into drought conditions.
  • The Climate Prediction Center is forecasting a drier than average July.
