  • General Session – Keynote Speaker
    • How to Create an Out-of-the-Ordinary Theme Garden – Lisa Nunamaker
      This presentation will show how to add that extra spark to your landscape by designing a garden about anything and more importantly, about YOU. Warning: Traditional themes like butterfly and moon gardens (though those are nice) will not be covered. Instead, the idea of theme gardens will be stretched to a new level. Bring your creative spirit and an open mind.

    • Farm to Table, Flower that is! – Jan Heitmann (Limited to the first 40 to register. Class material fee $35. If registering by mail, include separate check to NDSU Extension.)
      A Make & Take modern design using cut flowers that can be easily grown in your veg or flower garden. We will also talk about growing, conditioning, care, and drying of flowers.
    • Rain Gardens for Residential Landscapes! – Eric Castle
      Learn what rain gardens are, examples of local rain gardens, and how to design a rain garden for a typical residential yard.
    • Teas and Bees: Growing a Tea Garden for Self-Care and Pollinator Welfare – April Johnson
      Harvest the benefits of herbs and edible flowers in your tea garden while enhancing foraging opportunities for native bees and butterflies. 
    • Midwestern Houseplant Gardening – Audrey Gilbraith
      Learn which plants want to stay alive in your home and how to keep them happy.
    • How to Grow Mouthwatering Watermelons, Muskmelons, and other Long-season Crops in Northern Gardens – Don Kinzler
      The program will focus on all the tips necessary to coax long-season crop like melons to ripen early and reliably within our northern growing season.
    • Not Your Grandmother’s Daylilies – An Intro to the Astonishing World of Modern – Jason Halonen
      Few gardeners have seen the mind-blowing daylily cultivars from beyond commercial growers, nor are they aware that they’re one of the easiest plants to hybridize right in one’s own garden. With nearly 100,000 daylilies registered with the American Daylily Society, the fun and possibilities are endless!
    • Growing Beautiful Annuals – Joe Bergeson
      Learn how to turn your pots and flower beds into an explosion of color with a minimum of effort. Joe will discuss bed preparation, planting, care, and his favorite annual varieties for reliable performance. You might get a sneak peek of some new varieties, as well.

      The arrangement of plants is a beautiful process that can feel overwhelming. This presentation will highlight several planting models (or templates of sorts) that you can follow to arrange plants in different ways depending on the site or style you wish to convey.

      Come learn how to identify and control common lawn and garden weeds.
    • Succulents Up North – Johannes Olwage
      Take a journey into the rich world of succulents: tricks of the trade that make growing them fun and easy year-round, even in northern latitudes.  Includes a sneak-peek of the new International Peace Garden Conservatory, due to open in the summer of 2023, and home to one of the world's largest cactus and succulent collections.
    • Drought Tolerant Perennials – Julie Schroer and Jodie Ramsay
      If the last couple of year have taught us anything, it's that drought-tolerant plants are a must in northern gardens.  In this presentation, we will provide examples of plants that love the heat and can tolerate dry soil (for both sun and shade).
    • Twisted Carrot Farm Presents: Got Veggies??? Vegetable farming in your own backyard!– Jill Patterson
      Twisted Carrot Farm grows over 80 varieties of veggies, fruit, herbs and flowers. In this presentation, Jill takes you through a virtual tour of her hobby farm operation. You will walk out armed with knowledge and energized to do a bit of the same thing in your own backyard! Come learn how you can grow veggies for your own pleasure and your own plate.
