Description

A large tree native to North Dakota. A good replacement tree for the American elm because of its similar form and adaptability. Gray, stucco-like bark makes this tree a unique feature in a yard. The largest tree in North Dakota is 70 feet tall with a canopy spread of 62 feet.

Preferences

Light: Full sun to part shade.
Water: Medium to wet.
Soil: Tolerant of poor sites.

Comments

Tolerates wind and many urban pollutants. Makes an excellent street tree as it tolerates a wide variety of conditions. Fruits are attractive to birds and other wildlife. May respond to drought conditions by dropping leaves early, but is moderately drought tolerant.
