Purposeful Retirement Online Book Club
NDSU Extension and SDSU Extension will host an online purposeful retirement book club beginning Sept. 9 at 10 a.m. CDT (9 a.m. MDT) and meeting every other week through Nov. 18.
Overview
An engaging online book club will explore themes of purpose, meaning, and personal fulfillment in retirement. The online book club will discuss the book Purposeful Retirement: How to Bring Happiness and Meaning to Your Retirement by Hyrum W. Smith. Participants must purchase or borrow a copy of the book to join this book club.
Philip Estepp, NDSU Extension Gerontology Specialist, and Leacey Brown, SDSU Extension Gerontology Field Specialist, will lead the discussion.
Schedule
Sessions will occur on the following dates from 10-11:00 a.m. CDT:
- September 9
- September23
- October 7
- October 21
- November 4
- November 18
Objectives
In each session, Philip and Leacey will facilitate a group discussion and ask probing questions to encourage attendees to think about retirement in new and exciting ways. Topics will include:
- Exploring attitudes and beliefs about retirement.
- Describing how purpose influences health and wellness outcomes.
- Integrating purpose into retirement planning.
- Identifying goals and priorities for retirement.
Registration
Participation is free, but space is limited. Register by Sept. 1.
