The Muscular System

The muscular system moves the body - both internally and externally. The nervous system gives the orders and the muscular system carries them out.

General Terminology:

bulletmyo- = muscle
bulletsarco- = muscle cell

Skeletal muscle - also known as voluntary striated muscle - moves the skeleton.

Cardiac muscle - also known as involuntary striated muscle - is found only in the heart.

Smooth muscle - also known as involuntary muscle - is found in internal body organs.
