Ph.D. Requirements:
Foreign Language Proficiency
The US field requires proficiency in only one foreign language. All other fields require at least two; some require more, as determined by student’s advisor.
HIST 702: Historiography (3 credits)
Readings courses (6 credits):
Choose from among HIST 730, 740, 760, and 780.
Any of them may be repeated for credit, provided the topics are different.
HIST 710: Research Seminar (6 credits)
May be repeated for credit, provided the topics are different.
Courses at 600-level or higher (15 credits)
At least 3 and no more than 6 of these credits must come from non-HIST courses
HIST 705: Dissertation Prospectus (1 credit)
Written Comprehensive Examinations
Oral Defense of both the Written Comprehensive Examinations and the Dissertation Prospectus
HIST 899: Doctoral Dissertation (29 credits)
