Who: Kim Zubke, Major: Apparel and Textiles, Hometown: Dickinson, N.D.
What do you recall from being a new student on campus?
“I remember feeling very lost. My roommate and I wandered the course of our classes before the first day to avoid that. However, I still managed to look like a tourist, pulling out my Campus Connection schedule every couple feet. After coming out of classes, everyone seemed to be on their phone. I felt compelled to call someone every time I ventured outside. The campus felt friendly though, so it didn’t take me very long to feel at home.”
Favorite experiences:
“I loved the Bison football games! Thundar is by far the most entertaining mascot! The all-night Dance Marathon for Merit Care’s Children Hospital was very memorable as well. Above all, the friends I made through classes and organizations surpass any event.”
Future plans:
Zubke will move to Los Angeles to be near family and to find a fashion-related job. She plans a mission trip to Guatemala this summer, a study abroad trip to Europe next winter, and to train in image consulting.
Groups:
Campus Crusade for Christ; Fashion, Apparel and Business Organization; National Society of Collegiate Scholars; HD&E Leadership Council.
Advice:
“Make the most of every single day. Each year of college gains momentum. Looking back at the memories, I remember the relationships I built and the people I will miss dearly. Education and learning is the main purpose of college. But investing in others’ lives and leaving a positive legacy is priceless.”“Also, college is a time to discover who you are and what you stand for. Figure out your likes and dislikes, skills, and faith. These four years of independence will teach you countless lessons.”
