Open house planned for libraries dean

An open house reception for Bridget Burke, new dean of the NDSU Libraries, is scheduled for Thursday Sept. 18, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Weber Reading room of the Main Library.

Burke most recently was associate university librarian for special collections and the digital library at Boston College. Burke began working at Boston College in 2011.

Previously, she was an assistant professor and department head for the Alaska and Polar Regions Collection at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. She also has held positions at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia; American Alpine Club, Golden, Colorado; Colorado Historical Society, Denver; Sterling Library at Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut; National Museum of American History Library at the Smithsonian Institution; and the New York Public Library.

Burke earned her bachelor’s degree and Master of Library Science at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree in American history at Wesleyan University.

NDSU is recognized as one of the nation's top 108 public and private universities by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
