Participants:

Challenge is open to 4-H members ages 12-18 from all counties in North Dakota. Challenge is limited to ten teams of two.

Rules:

  • Find or adapt a recipe utilizing up to 2 pounds of beef top sirloin, all cooking will be done on a propane grill. A good resource for recipes, cooking, and beef cuts is https:/www.beefitswhatsfordinner.com
  • Teams will have 1 hour to cook and plate the food for judging. Each team will prepare 4 plates.
  • All ingredients will be provided for the challenge. Secret ingredients are NOT allowed.
  • Participants must bring their own cooking equipment and utensils. Propane grills will be provided.
  • Teams are responsible for cleaning up after themselves and assisting with cleanup afterwards.

Judging:

Beef dishes will be judges on the following: a.) Use of Beef, Cooking Technique, and Preparation b.) Best Sales Pitch to Judges c.) Appearance and Plating d.) Taste

Registration:

Registration opens April 2nd at noon CST. The challenge is limited to the first ten teams of 4-H’ers to pre-register. Participating teams will be notified by email. A typed recipe and a grocery list will need to be submitted to the Burleigh County Extension Office by April 26th. 

Schedule:

9:00 a.m. - Registration and Set Up

10:00 a.m. - Cooking Begins

11:00 a.m. - Judging and Awards

All participants will receive aprons, thermometers and pot holders, compliments of the North Dakota Beef Commission.
