Description

An eastern relative to our native Juneberry, Allegheny serviceberry has many of the same characteristics, including similar flowers and fruits. This short tree does better in full sun than in partial shade and may have orange-red fall color, depending on the soils. Trees can thrive in wetter soils, but true flood tolerance is unknown.

Preferences

Light: Full sun to partial shade.
Water: Medium water needs.
Soil: Adaptable to many soil types.

Comments

Fruit resembles blueberries in size, color and taste. Excellent plant for bird lovers.

The Allegheny serviceberry is known for its autumn color — a distinct purple bronze — and long, nodding fleecy panicles.
