Corn Hybrid Trial Results

We received no rainfall in the past week and temperatures were about six degrees Fahrenheit above normal in the past week.

Harvest is completed.

Central Dakota AG Day meeting is on December 16, 2021 from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM at the Carrington Research and Extension Center.

It is time to start planning for the 2022 growing season. The best place to start is to look at NDSU Corn Hybrid Research Trial data. When choosing a corn hybrid, it is a good idea to look at the results of as many locations as possible and to consider the highest yielding varieties over time at a location. I will share the results from three dryland locations, Carrington, Oakes, and Fingal.

The trial at Carrington was planted on April 29, 2021 following spring wheat and was harvested on November 1, 2021. The trial at Oakes was planted on May 7, 2021 following soybean and was harvested October 29, 2021. The trial at Fingal was planted on May 6, 2021 following soybean and was harvested November 3, 2021.

The highest yielding hybrid at Carrington was Integra’s 3431 VT2PRIB at 71.2 bushels per acre. Other hybrids yielding statistically similar to 3431 VT2PRIB were Integra’s 3537 VT2PRIB at 69.6 bushels per acre, Thunder Seeds’s T6987 VT2P at 69.4 bushels per acre, Proseed’s 1787 VT2P at 69.4 bushels per acre, Thunder Seeds’s T6190 VT2P at 68.9 bushels per acre, Thunder Seeds’s T6185 VT2P at 67.8 bushels per acre, Integra’s 3718 VT2PRIB at 67.4 bushels per acre, Champion Seed’s 40A21 VT2P at 66.1 bushels per acre, Peterson Farms Seed’s 73S84 at 65.4 bushels per acre, Thunder Seed’s T6085 VT2P at 64.8 bushels per acre, Dairyland Seed’s DS-3366AM at 64.5 bushels per acre, Peterson Farms Seed’s 75G85 at 64.3 bushels per acre, Stine Seed’s 9101-G at 64.1 bushels per acre, Dairyland Seed’s DS-3193AM at 62.9 bushels per acre, Dairyland Seeds’s DS-2828AM at 62.7 bushels per acre, REA Hybrids’s 3B903 at 62.7 bushels per acre, Peterson Farms Seed’s 22T83 at 62.2 bushels per acre, Legacy Seeds’s LC-2817 at 60.7 bushels per acre, Peterson Farms Seed’s 74Z87 at 60.4 bushels per acre, Proseed’s 1185 RR2 at 59.4 bushels per acre, and Legacy Seeds’s LC-3048 at 59.1 bushels per acre. The highest yielding hybrid at Oakes was Legacy Seeds’s LC-3617 at 164.6 bushels per acre. The highest yielding hybrid at Fingal was Dairyland Seed’s DS-3519AM at 246.2 bushels per acre. Other hybrids yielding statistically similar to DS-3519AM were Legacy Seeds’s LC461-21 at 245. Bushels per acre, Dairyland Seed’s DS-3727AM at 241.5 bushels per acre, Proseed’s 1996 VT2P at 240.8 bushels per acre, Dairyland Seed’s DS-3550AM at 238.8 bushels per acre, Renk’s RK561DGVT2P at 230.7 bushels per acre, Legacy Seeds’s LC-3419 at 229.6 bushels per acre, and Channel / Bayer 194-49DGVT2PRIB at 217.4 bushels per acre. The highest yielding hybrid for a two-year period at this site was Dairyland Seed’s DS-3519AM at 205.4 bushels per acre.
