Math notation

To enable math notation for a single page,

  1. Type Math using TeX/LaTeX notation in a Regular Text Element (i.e. use the RTE editor)
  2. Enable MathJax on the page using Insert records to insert the  Enable MathJax TeX/LaTeX on this page [392298] content record from the HTML Objects (any position within the main or border columns will work; you only need to insert once per page, even if there are multiple content records containing Math TeX/LaTeX)


  • You'll need to use a line-break (Shift-Enter) rather than a paragraph break (Enter) for multi-line entry. Pasting from a text editor might be tricky because of this.
  • Neither MathML nor AsciiMath notations are enabled.
  • Equation auto-numbering is not enabled.
  • Configuration  might change without notice, as we identify a reasonable configuration compromise that works in most cases.
  • This is not provided to "style content" other than Mathematical notation. Don't use it for regular text just because it "looks cool."

Why "Insert records?"

It's an easy way to start inserting the necessary script to load MathJax without inserting it on every page and slowing down pages that don't use Math notation. It will be easy to find (by means of a server-side update script) these "Insert records" content elements later and replace them with a proper plugin or page template option (such as a checkbox) that loads MathJax (possibly with selectable options, or possibly not) so that we don't have to use this quick hack.


The Lorenz Equations

The probability of getting \(k\) heads when flipping \(n\) coins is:

An Identity of Ramanujan

A Rogers-Ramanujan Identity

Maxwell's Equations

In-line Mathematics

Finally, while display equations look good for a page of samples, the ability to mix math and text in a paragraph is also important. This expression \(\sqrt{3x-1}+(1+x)^2\) is an example of an inline equation. As you see, MathJax equations can be used this way as well, without unduly disturbing the spacing between lines.
