Cycnia inopinatus (Hy. Edwards 1882)

Common name: Listed here as 'Lesser milkweed tiger moth.'

Hodges #: 8228.

Identification: Rfw 15 mm, fw costa yellowish at base, tegulae yellowish at base, vertex yellow, antenna flagellum gray dorsally, pectinations black.

Similar species: 8254, 8238. 8231, 8230.

Distribution: United States east of Great Plains, in south as far west as SW Texas..

Hosts: Larvae feed on Asclepias-- milkweeds and Apocynym-- dogbane.
