The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), a premier fashion institution in NYC, offers a Visiting Student Program for students from universities around the country and the world. The Apparel, Retail Merchandising, and Design (ARMD) program at NDSU is one of the schools that can provide this opportunity to its students.

There are five majors available to students participating in the FIT Visiting Student Program. The most popular choices among NDSU students are the Fashion Design and Retail Merchandising programs. This experience is best suited for students during their junior or senior year.

To apply for admission to the one-year Visiting Student Program at FIT, students must be in good standing at NDSU. Upon completion of the program, students earn an associate degree from FIT and a Bachelor of Science from NDSU. It is essential to work closely with your academic advisor to ensure that you meet the graduation requirements for both universities.

NDSU accepts courses taken during the year-long program at FIT to fulfill the requirements for the ARMD major, with credits transferring back to NDSU. Students interested in the Fashion Design program should have a strong art background, as a portfolio review is part of the admissions process. An overall minimum GPA is also required for eligibility.
