Description: ‘AmiDak’ was introduced by North Dakota State University. As a cold hardy, low growing, densely spreading evergreen, it makes a great choice for a foundation planting. The needles are slightly darker green than typical J. communis types. If a male plant is planted nearby, blueberry-like cones are produced annually.

Natural Habitat: Native to Europe, Asia, and North America.
Mature Size: Height: 1.5’ to 2’, Spread: 8’ to 12’
Form (Shape): Low growing and densely spreading.
Growth Rate: Slow.
Foliage: Rich, dark green with silvery blue hues.
Texture: Medium.
Flowers: Non-ornamental small yellow flowers.
Fruit: Slightly glaucous, spherical seed cones, commonly known as juniper berries. Berries emerge as green, but turn dark blue to black once ripened.
Light: Full sun to part shade.
Soil: Tolerates dry, sandy, stony, and gravelly soil.
Propagation: Commonly propagated through cuttings, however seed propagation is also possible.
Failure Patterns: Failure is uncommon.
Disease and Insects: Juniper blight can be a serious problem, but less frequently on J. communis.
