Description: Non-U.S. native shrub. This small to medium-sized shrub is ideal for planting in locations with limited sunlight as it can tolerate part-shade. When placed in such areas, the bright yellow-green stems and leaves brighten up the area, becoming a specimen plant within part-shade areas.

Natural Habitat: Garden origin, Cornus hessei is not a valid species, Garden Glow™ should be classified as Cornus alba.

Form (Shape): Multi-stemmed and informal, turning into a mound in maturity
Growth Rate: Medium to fast
Foliage: Deciduous. Foliage is a bright yellow-green in summer and turns red to burgundy in the fall. Stems turn from green to red in the fall, as well.
Texture: Medium
Flowers: Creamy white to yellow-white flowers blooming in late April to early May.
Fruit: Small whitish-blue fruit (drupe), not persistent, frequently eaten by birds.
Light: Part- to full-shade.
Soil: Prefers slightly moist soils, but can handle clay soils, erosion, and wet soil.
Propagation: Typically propagated through cuttings.
Failure Patterns: Leaves tend to burn in full sun, needs to be planted in part-shade. Needs rejuvenation pruning to promote best stem color
Insects and Diseases: No serious issues or pests
Landscape Use: Does well in part-shade locations to brighten the landscape. Can be used for screening, filler or accent. Stems turn red in winter and will change back to green in summer.
