Event Description
The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP) provides a no-fault alternative to the traditional legal system for resolving vaccine injury claims. In this session, Dr. Dorit Rubinstein Reiss will explore the program’s origins, structure, and role in maintaining public confidence in vaccination. Participants will gain insight into why no-fault systems are used for compensating vaccine harms, how the NVICP operates, and the ongoing discussions about proposed reforms and their potential implications for the program’s effectiveness and fairness.
About the Speaker
Dorit Rubinstein Reiss, LLB, Ph.D. is a professor of law and the James Edgar Hervey Chair in Litigation at UC Law San Francisco (formerly UC Hastings). She specializes in vaccines law and policy, including exemption laws and tort liability related to non-vaccination. She published in law reviews, peer reviewed journals and blogs on legal and policy issues related to vaccines and co-authored a book on Vaccines Law and Policy with Professor Y. Tony Yang.
