A3 Studio
A3 Studio
Welcome to the the A3 Studio, which now encompasses bouth the LightBoard station, as well as the new OBS screen recording station. Because these reside in the same room, only one station can be used at a time.
The OBS Screen Recording station has a sit down desk with a single lightbox, an audio-technica boom mic, and a Sony ZV E10 camera that acts as a hi res web camera. It is ideal for those wanting to mainly do screen recordings, while also recording the instructor. This set up will also allow for a more flexible layout in production. As of now, the sound equipment on the new studio is a higher quality includes filters that eliminate room noise. Click here to read specific instructions on operating this station.
The LightBoard is made of transparent glass panels which allows a presenter to face both audience and presentation screen at the same time while they write and draw. LightBoards can help increase eye contact and engagement with your students while recording presentations for the web or presenting live using a video conferencing tool such as Zoom or Microsoft Teams. Click here to read specific instructions on operating this station.
Please review the information below before booking the studio. If you have never used the studio before you should book a 30 minute walkthrough and testing session ahead of any recordings.
Reserving the Room
To reserve the room, create an Outlook event and add "NDSU A3 Lightboard Studio" as an invitee. You may want to first check when the room is available by adding the "resource calendar". This is done by using the browser version of Outlook and entering into the search box at the top of the Outlook page "NDSU A3 Lightboard Studio" and, when the suggestion appears below the search box, clicking on the calendar symbol to the right of it. (Using the "Add calendar button" on the left side will not work, and neither will it work to click on NDSU A3 Lightboard Studio directly.) Once you create the event, the slot will show up as pending, and other faculty should not reserve the room in the same time slot.
If you need access to the room after hours or when Katy or Deb are not around, there is a copy of the key to the A3 Studio in the draw behind Deb's desk marked "Odds & Ends." Within the draw there is a small tin coffee canister that holds the key. Please make sure to put it back once you are finished.
Time Slots
You can reserve time slots of arbitrary duration. However, if you reserve more than 6 hours in a given week, someone who reserved less than 6 hours will have precedence.
USB Drives
You will need two USB drives for your recording.
- For storing the recordings, you can use one of the USB drives that are provided in the room on the bookshelf facing the door as you walk in. They have large shiny disks as keychains, and should be easily visible. For the Lightboard station, if you want to bring your own, it has to be formatted as exFAT and cannot be larger than 64 GB. It should also be large enough for the duration of your videos. For reference, a 64GB memory card, recording at a resolution of 1080p at 60fps allows for around 5 hours of video time.
- You should bring your own USB drive with your power point slides. There are no formatting restrictions for that one.
