Campus tours are ‘super friendly’

By taking a campus tour, students can experience the vibrant campus at North Dakota State University.

For Justin Shamberg, a junior in construction management from Grayslake, Illinois, the environment made an impact on his final college decision.

“I remember campus being super friendly,” he said. “A lot of people greet you as you’re walking around. So many people wave to the tours and it’s not like they’re told to do it. They just like seeing new people.”

Shamberg chose NDSU for the location, academics, affordability and student involvement opportunities. Now a tour guide, he aims to give prospective students the same experience he had during his college visit. This is especially true for students who come from long distance.

Shamberg said his best tour experience was with a family from the East Coast. “They were from further away so I could relate with them not knowing anyone in Fargo,” he said. “They had a great experience and they ended up committing the same day.”

“I came here because I really liked this campus and I just wanted to share that with everyone,” Shamberg said.

Shamberg said he was quiet and didn’t know many people when he arrived at NDSU. However, he quickly became integrated into campus through recreation activities and Greek life. This also helped him become a tour guide as he gained more confidence and learned more about campus.

Shamberg also participates in rock climbing at the Wallman Wellness Center and is a member of Sigma Chi fraternity.

“As a tour guide, I just want to share the experience and how much fun it can really be if you put your whole effort into meeting new people, joining clubs or organizations, really getting involved,” he said.
