Biomedical Engineering Graduate Students Receive Honors
Joshua Dixon (first from the right in the second row), a master’s student in the Biomedical Engineering Program (BME) advised by Drs. Annie Tangpong and Fardad Azarmi of ME, attended the 63rd International Biomedical Sciences Instrumentation Symposium hosted by UND, April 9-12, 2026. Josh's paper, "The Effect of Surface Properties on Antibacterial Behavior of Titanium 6AL-4V Cold Sprayed Coatings," won the Best Student Paper Award. His research results could lead to future applications of these coatings in the biomedical industry.
Another student in the BME program, Kiana Mahoudian (second from the right), was selected as one of the 2026-2027 Possibility Fellows. The fellowship is NDSU’s premier entrepreneurship program, designed to accelerate student-led ventures and cultivate innovative talent across campus. Run by the NDSU Center for Entrepreneurship and Family Business, the Possibility Fellowship offers a nine-month, hands-on entrepreneurial curriculum that helps students move their ideas through the launch process. Fellows receive a $4,000 scholarship, additional funding for supplies, travel, prototyping, and venture development, and mentorship from experienced entrepreneurs and advisors. Kiana was a master’s student advised by Dr. Prakash Selvakumar of ME and is now pursuing her Ph.D. in BME under Dr. Danling Wang of ECE.
