In celebration of National Library Week, which runs from April 19-25, NDSU Libraries is hosting a full week of events designed to highlight its six unique library branches across campus. Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to stop by, explore the spaces and take part in the activities happening throughout the week.

"National Library Week is important at NDSU because it highlights the vital role the libraries play in student success and campus. It raises awareness of all our locations and resources such as research databases, study spaces and technology, while also promoting academic support through librarians and specialized services,” said Jolie Graybill, dean of Libraries. “This week helps build a sense of community by encouraging student engagement through events and activities, and it recognizes the contributions of library staff. Overall, National Library Week reinforces the library’s role as a center for learning, innovation, and lifelong education."

Maddie Sharpe, the downtown campus librarian, said she is especially excited to showcase the three library branches located on NDSU’s downtown campus: the James Falck Art Library, the Business Library Commons and the Klai Architectural Library.

“Not only do the materials in these specialized libraries support the schools and colleges they are linked to, but they also provide space, technology and research support directly to students, faculty and staff in these areas,” Sharpe said.

The week kicks off Monday, April 20, with an open house at the refreshed James Falck Art Library in Renaissance Hall from 3 to 5 p.m. Falck Library is a space that houses artist books and how-to instructions on every style of art someone is looking for. Visitors can explore the updated space and enjoy a comfortable place to study. The library will also soon welcome a large influx of new materials to add to its collection.

The NDSU Archives and Special Collections will be highlighted on Tuesday, April 21, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Located in the West Building at 3551 7th Ave. N., the NDSU Archives houses physical and digital collections showcasing the university’s history. During the event, attendees will be able to tour the Archives space and view items on display.

On Wednesday, April 22, the Business Library Commons in Barry Hall invites visitors to stop by for bingo, snacks and prizes. Located in the lower level of Barry Hall, the BLC offers collaborative study rooms, a dedicated business collection, and tools for brainstorming and presentations — all available to College of Business students 24/7.

The Klai Architectural Library, located in Klai Hall, will host a “Pop into Klai” event on Thursday, April 23, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., featuring a movie and popcorn. The KAL serves the School of Design, Architecture and Art, and offers 18,000 materials on architecture, art, disaster, resiliency and emergency management, as well as landscape architecture.

The celebration wraps up Friday, April 24, from 1 to 3 p.m. at NDSU’s Main Library. Guests can enjoy ice cream floats in the new student lounge located in the library’s lower level. NDSU’s Main Library is a popular study spot for students, and houses the Grad Hub, the Center for Writers, the Center for Accessibility and Disability Resources, as well as the Germans from Russia Heritage Collection.

In addition to the five library branches on campus, the Sanford Health Library, located within NDSU Nursing at Sanford in Bismarck, will be recognized for the vital role it plays in supporting NDSU nursing students who utilize the space to study, collaborate and receive assistance finding information.
